[ it's all the guarding he'll allow himself to get anyways. he's pretty sure he doesn't even deserve that miniscule sense of self preservation, but somehow it always claws itself back up again, wet and stubborn and heavy. regardless, juno likes hearing about their work, finds that there's something more than similar there to what he wants to see done back home. protecting people who can't protect themselves. that's... what it's all about. ]

And when I do undercover, I don't go that undercover. I blame an associate of mine for the whole Dahlia and Duke thing... he's a overgrown theatre kid.

[ associate sounds better than friend, which sounds better than "the best thing that's ever happened to me." juno's voice goes soft with the memory as he presses his lips together and shakes his head. there's at touch of fondness there, like a hint of some kind of longing memory in just words alone. ]
