[Although it takes him a while to work up the nerve to actually do it. Suddenly, he feels hyperaware of every centimeter of his skin, seeing it through the lens of a still-hypothetical partner; after a short staring contest with Wildd (who probably isn't judging him nearly as much as he feels like he's being judged), he leaps into frantic motion.

There's only so much preening he can actually do, though, so once he makes sure he's passably clean, he shoves away the anxiety and changes into a pair of close-fitting trousers and a blue t-shirt. He applies a bit of eyeliner, but doesn't bother with any other makeup--he's already running later than he'd like to--and finally, loosely ties his gauze leopard-print scarf around his neck.

Wildd, when asked if he looks alright, just tilts its head and chirps.

Arthur takes a deep breath, steels himself and holds out his arm. Wildd hops aboard, settling into its usual perch on his shoulder, and together they head for the beach.

When the salt air hits his face, he inhales deeply. It's calming--almost enough to distract him from the terror of what he's about to do.]

[ Vex wasn't used to being feared anymore, so he was unaware of any terror that he might be striking in his new companion. He dragged a few of his deck chairs closer to the ocean and set them in the sand. Between them he set a cooler full of a mismatched selection of beers, because beggers couldn't be choosers in this place, then reclined in a casual outfit as he waited for his arrival.

He hadn't done his own makeup in a long time, and he wasn't about to start it back up in this hellhole. A pity, it would've been nice to have some while meeting a fellow glam rock lover.

When he spotted the fellow looking around he tilted his sunglasses down his nose and let out a loud whistle between two of his fingers to catch his attention. Then he waved him over. ] Oi! Over here! [ He greeted, his thick working-class London accent apparent and yet slightly off. ] Have a seat and a drink, gorgeous. What's that then? [ He nodded at Wildd. ]

[Arthur finds, to his relief, that his...date? One-night stand?--is attractive. Sure, if given the choice he tends to prefer fair-haired men, but it's not like he's exactly swimming in options, and it's been months since the last time he had a proper shag.

But just because he's easy doesn't mean this man has to know about it, and a part of him wants to hold onto the last scrap of his dignity; instead of just dropping straight to his knees, he folds his arms over his chest with a small, lopsided smile.

(There's something odd about the way he speaks, too, but two years living in London after seventeen in Manchester hasn't trained his ear enough to be able to pick up on what exactly that something is.)]

[Tucked in the pocket of his own tight jeans is a page from a newspaper--the very one that had gotten him kicked out in the first place--but, for the moment, he doesn't pull it out. He is, after all, trying to maintain at least a facade of mystery.

Instead, he browses through the selection of beer, eventually picking something that says "IPA". He sits in the opposite chair and holds out his arm, and Wildd hops down to his hand as if on cue and chirps at his companion.]

It's my daemon. I think it's a kind of thrush, but I'm not sure which kind exactly.

[ It was difficult to tell through the sunglasses, but Vex was definitely eyeing Arthur up to appraise him. Reminded him a bit of the bloke from American Psycho looks-wise, and that wasn't a bad thing. ]

On the beach? That's mad, luv. When I was first dumped here it crawled all up my legs and it took me ages to get it off, so it's been shorts ever since. Few months ago I prob'ly would've worn a speedo and shaved, but I really didn't have a reason to get all dolled up lately, It's not as though there's a nightlife here. [ He shrugged before taking a deep swig from his can, his eyes off to the side to look at the bird Arthur was showing off. ] Mm mm, I wonder if my cat would go for him. Hexd?! [ His head turned so he could shout back at the nearby house, where a black cat reclined on wooden deck of his patio. It rose it's head briefly as if to regard Vex, then set it back down as if to go back to sleep. ] Cheeky blighter... [ Vex muttered before he shook his head and relaxed back into his chair, apparently giving up on the willful machine ]

[Arthur grimaces, wanting to squirm just at the idea of the combination of sand and leather--true, he's a little disappointed, but it's alright. It's not like the man isn't fit without them.

The idea of a speedo makes Arthur blush, which he tries (and probably fails) to hide in a sip of beer, but at least the attention is drawn off him for a moment by the cat. He takes another sip to give himself a bit of a buffer, swallowing.]

Not really. She pulls out hair sometimes, but I think she's just trying to preen.

[He takes in a deep breath and another swig of beer, breaking eye contact by staring out at the waves.]

Maybe I will ask, if I have a reason to.

[ Even with sunglasses, Vex's eyes tended to zero in on a blush- especially if an attractive bloke was doing the blushing. That made his mouth curve up in a crooked grin, one of the few he'd displayed since coming to this place. ]

Pink looks good on ya, darling. So what do you think? Still scared?

[ Maybe it was too early to ask, but Vex wasn't exactly known for his patience. Not that he wanted to push Arthur into bed or anything, his sex drive definitely hadn't been top-notch since leaving Eudio but he wanted to check in anyway. ]

[As per usual, drawing attention to the embarrassed flush of his face only makes it worse, and he has to fight the urge to squirm under the sudden, heavy heat of Vex's dark eyes on him. It's not totally unpleasant, though--he'd been called darling, and there's a promise in that smile he's seen before.

Though his face is still hot and he's not quite sure what to do with his hands, he manages a smile back, along with a glance that he hopes is more coy than skittish.]

I was never scared--I just wanted to see if you were fit.

[He downs the rest of his beer to steel himself, speaking before he has a chance to think about what he's going to say.] At the moment, the odds are in your favor.

Alright. [ He said good-naturedly, which didn't seem to match Vex's nature, but he soon shifted into teasing which matched his name a bit better. ] So you're not gonna piss yourself if I tell you my house is right behind us, yeah?

[ Since Arthur was so reluctant to meet him at his home in the first place... Sure, it was a bit of trickery, but Vex was fae after all. ] Glad to hear I've still got it even when I'm not at my best. [ He chuckled with a false sense of pride as he took a swig from his bottle. ]

[Arthur raises an eyebrow--he didn't come off as that skittish, did he? Then again, he's never been all the good with understanding how other people saw him, and the snort of laughter is equally self-deprecating and incredulous.]
