[he's put this off for longer than he should have. there were just more important things happening when he arrived, and after that it felt too late for introductions.

but it keeps eating at him, and eating at him, and isn't there a saying about better late than never? so he double-checks his appearance and clears his throat before turning to his daemon.

what you get looks a little bit like a kid whose mother has slicked his hair to the side for the first day of school.]

I've wanted to say hi, so here I go. Hi. My name is Haneul. You can also call me Han - no one ever has, but I wouldn't mind it. I've been here for a couple of weeks. So far this has all been...well, life goes on, doesn't it?

[until it doesn't, but he's trying to make friends and reminding people that they die isn't a very good way of going about it.

So is there anything that you hope to do before you're finished with this life? I'll tell you one if you'll tell me.

[ From inside her house, Rose's pack of canines' ears all perk up and heads turn to look at Rose quizzically as she inhales sharply. There's nothing wrong, it's just-

There's been a boy this cute here for a couple weeks and she??? Hasn't talked to him yet??? This needs to change. Immediately. The blond fixes her own hair - in a way that she wants to suggest she didn't fix it at all - and makes sure she's somewhere pleasant when she starts on the video feed. One of her dogs nudges his way into view, tonguge lolling out the side of his mouth and panting happily as Rose pets his head idly while she talks. ]

Hello, Haneul! It's nice to meet you. My name's Rose and I've been here a while now, so- If you have any questions, let me know! [ A little ray of sunshine, even now. ] As for your question, it's hard to pick just one, actually! I think... This probably sounds a little silly, but. I want to go to space? I always used to look up at the stars and wonder what was out there and still think it'd be awesome to orbit a planet or something.

['sunshine' is actually the word that comes to mind, the way she offers her help immediately, the cheerful lilt of her voice. even her hair.

plus she likes dogs. help, let him mark 'meet the most charming woman ever' off his bucket list.]

That's not at all silly. [haneul scoots forward, like he thinks he could physically leave his location and be in hers.] There must be so many beautiful things to see out there - we see it from a distance and it's beautiful.

Would you actually want to land on a planet or just keep travelling?

[ The camera wiggles a little as another dog makes his way towards Rose's lap. He nudges her free hand with a cold nose. Mom. Mom, c'mon, why is his brother getting pets and not him? She smiles wider at the demand for attention but doesn't take her eyes off Haneul. ]

I think so too! I've been to a lot of worlds now, but never actually got to see the travel to them... I think that'd be neat. Seeing all the galaxies and nebulas and stuff in-between. [ She tilts her head a little, thoughtfully, at that next inquiry though. ]

I'm used to traveling a lot so that is fun for me, but... Lately, I think there's some merit maybe to settling down somewhere.

Have you? [haneul's eyes widen at that. it never crosses his mind that what she's saying might not be the truth. after his two weeks here, he's hardly in any position to doubt.] I've heard people talk about whether it's the journey or the destination that's more important.

[he thinks about it a little more seriously now, which he would choose. ...being the first human to set eyes on some alien plant seems really appealing.

or it could be an alien bug. a giant one. and if that's the case, he'd rather keep right on flying, thank you very much.

his attention returns to her.]

Has something changed to make you think that?

Life's a journey, not a destination. And I just can't tell just what tomorrow brings... [ comes the sung answer. ] Or so Aerosmith said!

This is my fourth world though, [ she admits. ] I was actually aiming for somewhere else when I ended up here, but- So far, I can't really complain! Everyone I care about is here, which. Is probably what changed my mind, I realize. Kind of cheesy to say but I found a family here I didn't have before.

[he's never heard the idea as part of a song before. it's much better, he thinks, than just some dry rhetorical question, or pretentious philosophy.]

It does sound like they have it figured out. Do you know the rest of the song?

[maybe he's looking for more wisdom in places he never thought to look before. he might also just like hearing her sing. but haneul's just as content to listen to her talk, the explanation that she gives.]

You know what's really cheesy? Pizza. What you're saying makes perfect sense. [haneul looks down, takes a breath like he's going to say something more but ends up holding it. he finally exhales before smiling again.] You have adorable dogs. I had a dog. He passed.

[actually, he has that a bit backward. the dog died and then he became his.]

I do. I'd be happy to sing the rest of it for you sometime, if you'd like. Always glad to have an audience.

[ He's winning a lot of points with that, honestly. Rose's musical ability is one of the few (if not the only) things she's proud of. So to show it off, to have people tell her she's good... It's nice.

She laughs though, at that pizza comment. ]

Man, now I could go for pizza. I'm sure these guys would make eyes at me if I did though. [ Rose bends down to give one a smooch on their wet nose. The dog licks at her face in return affection, tail thwumping against the daemon currently recording. ] Thanks. I'm sorry to hear about yours though, I... I don't actually know what I'll do if anything happens to these guys.

It's a tough thing. They have pure souls and unconditional love. Having those things around us, it makes us better people. It cures us, it purifies us.

[he's been looking to the side, and it probably seems like he's talking to himself a little bit. haneul corrects it as soon as he realizes it, eyebrows jumping as he offers a faint smile.]

That kind of love doesn't go anywhere. I know it's not the same, but trust me when I tell you that you'll never really lose them. [but he's suddenly worried that he's just making her sad in spite of his good intentions, so he quickly looks for a distraction.] But I have to ask you something now, and it's very serious. Don't rush your answer, I'll wait.

[haneul clasps his hands together and leans forward.]

Pineapple on pizza, yes or no?

[ ... Curious, but. He's right. It was why she had never understood the hatred in her people's hearts. Why they were wolves made to hurt, not help. It seemed to go against everything in her. Unfortunately, it was only her. ]

That's reassuring. I definitely hope not. [ It's a little somber, but not enough to really bring down her mood. She knows, better than anyone, how temporary everything is. Still. ]

Oh, jeez. [ She feels like... there is a wrong answer here. ] I've never... actually tried it? [ Since she didn't want to, but. ] But never let it be said I'm afraid to try new things.

It's intensely debated. A part of me feels like that passion could be put to better use elsewhere, but...

[he also feels like people should be passionate about as many things as possible.]

And it's good to try new things! [haneul smiles brightly at her enthusiasm, which seems to be something that he has in spades.

but a flicker of something crosses his expression. not quite a grimace, but...they might share an opinion on the subject at hand.]

And the good news is that pineapple is safe for dogs to eat too. So, if you hate it... [he trails off with a laugh, shaking his head.] At least it won't go to waste.

[ So does Rose, actually, so they have that in common already. Though some people could stand to be less passionate about things, like the dragon kind and his passion for purging humankind. ]

Oh, gosh, that's good to hear. I wasn't actually sure, I mean- I don't eat it much, but it never made me sick? Not like chocolate does. So I figured it was probably alright for them too.

[ ... Wait, what. ]

Ah-

[haneul tips his head, blinking a couple of times as he thinks about that, the connection that she makes between what she can eat and what the dogs can eat not totally out there. he's seen some dog food that looks a lot like his aunt's cooking, with the little peas and carrots in it. the dog food probably tastes better too. (he would never tell her that.)]

I wonder why that is.

[ 'Ah,' indeed. The woman can't help but smile at his obvious... befuddlement by the seeming random connection made. It's not a secret. Not anymore. A year and some change ago, Rose would have never just said this. Yet, here she goes with, ]

I'm a yokai. A wolf one, specifically. So I technically am part wolf and that means certain things - like caffeine - are toxic to me.

It's such a shame. I love chocolate, too.

Really?

[the word suggests the slightest of doubts, but haneul's expression says otherwise. he's smiling, brown eyes alight as he looks at her.]

You're the first yokai that I've ever met, wolf or otherwise. Are your senses - sorry, I'm getting ahead of myself. Do you mind if I ask you a couple of questions? No more than that, I promise.

[he doesn't want her to feel like she's on trial or anything.]

[ It's a good thing. The interest. He might be worried about seeming invasive, but Rose- For so long, Rose hid what she was out of fear that people might react badly. Every time they don't and especially with fascination, it's an immediate plus in her book.

So Haneul is just winning all around right now. ]

My senses are heightened, yes. Sight and smell especially. And don't worry, you can ask me as many questions as you want. Though- Maybe over dinner sometime?

[he has very few fears - well, cockroaches. cockroaches are a terror. but she doesn't seem scary to him at all, fear absolutely not what he feels when she suggests dinner. more an excitement that makes him wish he could nudge time forward, without consideration for the hours that would be wasted.

and maybe she wouldn't think that he's scary either.

he remains smiling, almost like his daemon has paused or frozen on him. but he finally brinks and responds.]

Dinner would be perfect - with dessert. It would give us more time to talk. Nothing chocolate. [okay, he feels like he's recovered fairly well, as long as he doesn't start wondering if maybe she doesn't like sweets at all.] I promise I won't eat anything with too much garlic either.

[ For Rose, it's spiders. It's thankfully a common fear among people but hers is deep-rooted in a very bad experience with an arachnid yokai and her poison. Thankfully, the multiverse has spared her from running into any spider-people during all her time hopping around worlds.

So, as long as Haneul isn't a spider in disguise... It's doubtful she'll be scared of him either. ]

How thoughtful of you, [ she hums happily. Already so mindful. It's adorable. Gosh, why didn't all these cute boys exist in her world? ]

It sounds like a plan! Anywhere in particular you wanna' go or can I surprise you?

Surprise me. I like surprises.

[especially ones like this, like her. his life has been painfully lacking in those sorts of surprises.]
