Why does it not surprise me at all that you were planning to make the move before him. I really do wish that sort of thing was more in fashion where I'm from, might prevent quite a few girls a lot of headaches.

You're far smarter than I was then. That was actually in our vows. We were going to be all modern and liberated and we swore we'd never get jealous of each other no matter how many other people we shagged. Which was. Naive is probably the nicest way to put it.

I'm not sure I would have been a lot better if I'd been doing it for the first time now, actually. But as far as I've seen, your partner doesn't seem to be an insufferable narcissist, so I'd say the odds aren't stacked so much against you there.

the only reason I didn't is because he ended up beating me to it, honestly
it wasn't the proposal I wanted...
but then he made it up to me by giving me one I did
