Those who either had no romantic partner or were not wealthy were placed in an arena and forced to battle to the death. "I have blood on my hands now. Something I never wanted," said Nico di Angelo (19).
Meanwhile, as the Servos fought, the Primus lived the high life. Wealthy members of this class were known to even hold slaves while others were more content with one or more spouse. Together, they would frequently watch the Servos combat in the arena, looking on as innocent people were slaughtered. However, there were some that disagreed. "I enjoyed it when it was fair combat. When two warriors of equal measure test their mettle against each other it is an admirable sport.
I did not enjoy it when the organizers of the battle became involved. They resorted to underhanded tactics to sway the battle in favor of some parties, rather than others. I assume to add a more 'wild' element to the battle for the thrills of a mindless audience.
Their methods disgusted me and I lodged a formal protest," said Ignacio (∞), a vampire who had been a Primus at the time. Part of his efforts including saving two combatants from the battles.
He was not alone in his efforts. Reports have come in of an anonymous detractor, one who posted protest posters all over the city. Though neither had a huge impact on the government, both were an example of the people here who are ready to fight. |
