What do you need defined?

Grisha is a word I'm not familiar with. And context clues would indicate kruge is a type of currency, but I wouldn't know the value.

Hard to define the value of a currency between worlds. What shall I say? One kruge for bread. Three for cocoa at the harbor. A roll of a hundred for time with a girl. Thirty thousand for a ship.

The Grisha are practitioners of some ancient magic, or are gifted with powers in their blood to shape the world — depends who you ask.

In other words, five million would make you very wealthy. Are you very wealthy?

You mentioned mind-reading. Does that mean there are other ways to use the power a Grisha can possess?

Not currently. Money doesn't mean anything here.

Grisha can go a few things: heal people, or alter someone's features, or move metal, or control water. I don't really know all the categories, and some of it depends on how strong they are in the first place. I imagine some heartrenders can't even manage to inflict shortness of breath, but I've seen others tear swathes through a group of men.

But no place is without currency, whether or not it's monetary.

Very diverse abilities then. And not totally understood by most people, but their existence is fairly common knowledge?

That's a correct summary. Some people make use of them, usually as indentures, while others of certain religion believe they're innately evil. Is there a word that people here would better understand? I haven't met anyone yet who knows "Grisha". Perhaps "witches"?

There are a lot of similar abilities or sets of abilities represented here. I think we tend to use the term 'magic user' to avoid confusion. Because of our various backgrounds, I think we're also inclined to be a little more liberal-minded than some of the general public from worlds we've come from.

I suppose given how we all ended up here, keeping an open mind is paramount. Though I also think it would be easy to be angry if you felt that powers beyond the ordinary were responsible for tearing you away from your world.

Well now, that's a fair point! I've yet to come across someone who felt that way, but it would be understandable. Actually, most people I've met in worlds other than my own have a pretty open-minded view about abilities that are out of the ordinary, even if they come from worlds where those things are kept secret or don't apply to the public at large.

It's an interesting thought.

There's a country in my world that raises witch-hunters; it's part of their religion to hate Grisha. In my city it's not illegal but most people tend to be at least a little afraid of magic users, unless they're acting as indentured servants. So even if it's not a perspective I share, it's the kind I'm very familiar with.

Unfortunately, that's all too easy to imagine. In the world I come from, it's largely a secret, known only to a small number of us. I think it shocks people to find out what others can be capable of, whether or not there's magic involved.

Yes, that's true too.

So magic is often simply an unknown in your world? People simply don't know it exists at all? That seems unobservant.

It's intentionally hidden from most, and only certain humans possess the sight that allows them to observe our world. Some suspect, but can't prove that it exists.
