LATE SUMMER FAIR (NSFW DESSERTS)

Characters: Ensemble cast, any/all characters of Xistentia!
Summary: The slow transition from summer leads to a fair, complete with whacky treats and activities from other holidays and festivals from around the Multiverse.
Date(s): August 26-September 2
Warnings/Notes: None, please mark your subject headers with content.

Late Summer Fair
I play my part and you play your game

Welcome to Xistentia's first fair, F.A.T.E.S.' excuse to mingle. The setup appears overnight on the edge of town, a nonsensical mash of themes and places from the multiverse. Haunted house and circus tent, facepainting, ferris wheel and carousel, game stands that seem to self-operate, dozens of empty shopfronts, self-regenerating popcorn stands. Pretty soon, however, the people start to come, bringing their own goods and wares. The population of Xistentia is 333, which is more than enough people to fill a fair.

As far as fair food goes, there are penis-shaped waffles[NSFW] in various flavors, two-sticked popsicles for sharing with a partner, turkey legs, fried dough, cookies as big as your head, fried fish, fried lizards, glutinous fruits, and lembas.

And let's not forget, there is an abundance of alcohol everywhere. Beer, wine, you name it.

But of course, let's not forget the games. Many of them are low-key and prizes vary from the ability to change your daemon's color to any other natural hue, to free food, horrible writing pens, and stuffed animals. Games vary from whack-a-mole to bobbing for apples. Everything is free to eat, drink, and play, barring some excuses for barter with some of your friendly neighborhood natives.

Some games, however, are less casual if not necessarily more costly. The contests of finesse and strength come with special prizes from F.A.T.E.S. and...
THE WINNERS ARE

Note that the "prizes" do not stack. Runner-up winners will not get multiple of the same type of prize, and those who experience a critical failure won't suffer particularly severe consequences. If your character receives a dream or a "unique item," you will receive a reply to your comment on the mod announcement with more information.

Kissing Booth

And what would a fair be, without a kissing booth?

Just like the rest of the fair, the odd thing is that there is of course no payment required.

Instead, a large and lovely lantern hangs behind the booth. It seems to glow a little brighter every time a kiss is transacted. It's hard to know exactly what this means, but considering that emotional intimacy lights the streets of the city, one might guess that F.A.T.E.S. is saving up this particular energy for something special.

But until then, it's a good excuse to make out.

Kaz hadn't really been aware of the currency issues, had thought the lack of money changing hands at the fair was exclusive to it alone. It makes sense, of course, but it does cause his smile to fade, a faraway look in his eyes that Jesper and Inej used to call his scheming face.

"Perhaps they'd make an allowance for a currency that existed solely within the casino. Chips that could be gambled, or traded for drinks and other services, or even prizes..." he looks down at his own armful of prizes, coming back to himself, a little ruefully. "Better than this, I'd hope."

Part of her feels like she shouldn't be encouraging him. Though Rose has always been a fan of the unique and this certainly is for a slightly rougher around the edges version of cuddle city. Had Eudio ever had casinos? She'd never heard of them. Night clubs, sure, but even then they'd never been wild like the ones back home.

It's possible she missed a bit of excitement more than even she realized.

"The giraffe takes offense, sir," she replies with, clutching the tiny plush toy close to her chest. "But yeah, that might work. Hasn't been much of a night life here besides the lounge and that's-" Rose pulls a face at just the mere memory of the awful sounds trying to pass as music produced by F.A.T.E.S. "-got the worst music, so. I'd be willing to go to a cool new casino, at least."

Kaz's eyes are bright and pleased now, so consider him encouraged. There's nothing more exhilarating and motivating to him than a plan, and he can feel one formulating right now, fizzing behind his calm facade.

"And what kind of music do you like?" he asks (not that he knows much about it.) "It should be live, I think. A live band knows how to play to the mood of the room." Though he's thinking more about how feasible it would be, in this city where he has nothing and knows no one. But Kaz Brekker has pulled himself forcibly out of poverty once before...

A soft huff of breath that could almost be laughter, though self-deprecating at best. "But it's all just a dream for now. I still don't know what this place is like yet, after all."

It's possible she likes that shine in his eye a little too much. It's not a bad thing, right? To be excited about something? Nevermind the fact that something is a potentially (likely, probably) corrupt casino. It's... the principle of the matter that counts.

She's sure.

"All kinds," she says, which is true. While she leans towards Pop and dance music, she's a fan of most genres. "I haven't sung live in a while, actually." She sings all the time, but not for an audience bigger than her boyfriend(s) or pack of canines. Maybe she sings too much, Vanyel might argue when she hits a high note and all eight dogs set to howling along with her.

"It's good to have a dream though, dude! And even if not a casino, you can probably get something cool up and running here. Why not?"

Ah, she sings. That immediately makes her useful, if he does want to have live music, which in turn stops Kaz from berating himself for spending so much time just standing around and talking to this friendly young lady. It's fine, if he has a use for her acquaintance.

Still. He wants to continue to press his armful of items upon unlikely strangers. But first he nods to her encouragement. "Yes. Having a goal is important, I think."

And it's hard to have a goal of destroying one man's life when that man isn't even here. He has to find something new to motivate him, or else he'll be lost. Saving the world, his world, that can be his driving force. Which means learning to fit in somewhere other than the gutters of Ketterdam.

"You've given me a lot to think about," he tells her seriously.

He will. She'd done things she never thought she'd do for Charlie, honestly, and probably would for Kaz too if given enough time. She was a sucker for smooth-talking handsome men long before Eudio and Xistentia.

"I'm glad, dude. I hope you get your casino," she says, and is just as (perhaps naively) serious. Anyone accomplishing their goals is a good thing in her mind, no matter what exactly they're doing it for or it means. "And that you settle in. I know it's not easy and all, being away from home but... Everyone here's pretty cool. So far."

~the end~

"I at least know there's one tolerable person here," Kaz agreed. (Does he mean her?) (He probably means her.)

Anyway with that like, lavish compliment he tips his head to her in an overly formal farewell before moving on to find other ways to get rid of all his prizes. Undoubtedly some will be returned to the fair stalls when he eventually gives up.
