Random food seems likely to be a truth. Captaincy and the preservation of monuments are slightly more likely, though I don't really know what a school swim team is. Do you just swim in groups?

Is the point of the game to try and fool everyone else into thinking they could all be true?

Sort of??? That's more like... Synchronized swimming.
The swim team is more like... A race! You swim from one end of the pool and back, the person who does it the fastest is the winner.

I'm not really sure of the point of the game either, so I can't answer. I suppose it's an effective strategy to get people talking. Especially when the cover of the possibility of a lie makes it easier to admit more vulnerable truths.

The explanation helps though. The swim team is a lie.
