[ voice | daemon: sabellad ]
[ The voice that comes out is low and rich, disguised as a gentleman. ]
So we are all here to "save the world". I don't suppose anyone has any idea on how to do that? Or better yet, how far along we are in terms of saving it? 30%? Though I imagine I am being generous with that number.
Alternatively, what do you do all day, bereft of a home?

It is similar to Eudio, no? Intimacy is important.
I can view this place only as temporary, of course, but it is possible to make a place of residence here. Even if I cannot call it home. When did you arrive?
no subject
I have no idea what "Eudio" is. And I only arrived recently.
no subject
I see. Then I must apologise. I believed you to be one I knew there. One whose company I enjoyed.
It was a world in which energy was collected, and used as power. That energy came from intimacy. It sounds strange, I know, but I have seen it work. I have benefitted from it working, so perhaps it is easier to accept it here.
no subject
There is no need for an apology.
And did this other world also claim such an outrageous story?

[ Rafa's accent is a soft, Italian-sounding thing, but it manages to match Loki's cool British disdain. Just about. ]
Not at all. We were there for our own benefit.
I did however see it dying all around me as I left. I meant to go home, aware that my own world was in danger. Instead I came here.
no subject
No matter. Loki files away his thoughts for later. ]
And the danger remains. Perhaps it is a system in place in various realms, in order to keep things from falling apart.
no subject
[ Admittedly, perhaps. Rafa has no real answers; only speculation. That's how it's always been for him here. He likes it no better than Loki. ]
I put to you that there are two possible scenarios here. One is the F.A.T.E.S has told us the truth, and the other is that they are lying. If they lie, then the question is why. How it benefits them, and what that might mean for us and our worlds. If they tell the truth, then our worlds are in peril, along with everyone we may care for. I cannot tell you which is real, but I can tell you I will not risk my people, or my kingdom, because I doubt. Until I know better, I intend to play their game. I will see where that takes me.
no subject
Your kingdom?
no subject
[ More carefully. ]
In my world, I am a king of vampires. Our territory spans part of what you would call Midgard, I believe.
no subject
[ Loki is only passing familiar with the species, but he does not dismiss it. ]
Humans also treat you as a myth or simply accept your existence?
no subject
[ It was such a short time ago that they were secret. That they were stories, legends, tales told to frighten children. Things are different now. ]
Now instead of preying on them, we make arrangements. Deals, mutually beneficial pacts. Which I suppose only makes us a different kind of predator.
no subject
A smart one, at least.
no subject
They speak the language of business, now. We knew our hand was strong before we played it.
Did it surprise you? It caught your attention, when I mentioned my kingdom.
no subject
[ Granted, he does not seem particularly annoyed about that. ]
But I am adaptable in all things.
no subject
You do not know them as creatures willing to set aside morality for gain? You would be surprised what they will tolerate when it benefits them.
[ In certain places, at least. Rafa pauses, and then relaxes his shoulders.]
There are places, I will grant you, that do not welcome us. As in all things, it is an issue on which they do not always agree. Strangely, there are as many of them that fight for our rights, as wish to kill us for our difference.
no subject
[ But Loki only knew the heroes. He never had time to mingle with the common people. And even then, Loki is a creature of generalizations, despite all his intelligence. He can route anyone in a battle of wits, but even he can be narrow minded. ]
Why would humans care about anyone but their own? It is not their way.
no subject
I would not say they do. I would say they care about our gold in their coffers, and our stronger, faster, better soldiers in their ranks. Not to mention that our influence among business and industry is great, thanks to our investment in it for many, many centuries. We were already entrenched in that long before we came out of our coffins.
[ He hates that phrase, but uses it anyway. A roll of his eyes accompanies it. ]
We also picked our timing well. My people had been at war with a race known as the Fae, for a very long time. Their Doors to our world had long been closed, and we guarded them closely, but that magic only lasts for so long. We knew the Doors would open, and feared the Fae would reveal us to the humans on their terms. Instead, we did it ourselves, and found an ally against the invaders. Nothing brings people together like a common enemy.
no subject
An alliance of common goals. It certainly can cement a bond like none other.
no subject
[ Rafa lifts his shoulders. ]
We made more progress with the humans in war than we ever have in times of peace. Sometimes war is the easier state, depressing though that is.
no subject
Any sign of it ending?
no subject
[ Rafa says, skeptically. He rolls his shoulder. ]
For the moment. In truth, I find it difficult to trust in that. We have never known peace before. Would you believe in it?
no subject
[ His response is blunt even if his body language seems careless. ]
But I've been told I am rather cynical.

I am still undecided.
