I see trouble on the way.

Characters: Everyone! Yes, you too!
Summary: Mandy's Masquerade hosts a fantastic Halloween party with a costume contest, some very special cocktails, and a few other surprises.
Date(s): Late in the month of October.

Mandy's is looking a bit festive this evening. Arrayed with spiderwebs, pumpkins, and other ghoulish decorations, the interior resembles a spooky haunted house. Spooky, not scary! Everyone's invited to stop by and celebrate All Hallow's Eve with spirited drinks, excellent company, and a lot of that Magnus flair.

You can loosen up on the dance floor to Monster Mash, Thriller, Dead Man's Party, or maybe something from this list. The spooky sky's the limit! Visit the bar for one of several special drinks you won't soon forget. You can also sample some tasty and holiday-appropriate baked goods, courtesy of the other Mr. Lightwood-Bane. Finally, stop by the table with the MAGIC 8 BALL to learn a little more about your fellow partygoers.

Siren Song
If you're a little tone-deaf, don't fret. This drink will turn you into a master at serenading. It won't actually give you the ability to influence anyone via magical means, but maybe if your song choice is apt, you'll woo someone either way!

Firework!
A drink that comes with a portable fireworks show hovering over its surface. Drinking it will give you the sensation of ingesting liquid pop-rocks.

Blacklight
Does what it says on the tin and makes the drinker glow under a black light. It's also kind of sour.

Frankenstein's Monster
This drink is quite shocking. Not dangerously so, but when you drink it, you'll have the impression of getting a tingling little jolt of electricity down your spine. It's aliiiiive.

To Be or Not To Be (A Daemon)
Drink this and you will find you've been magically swapped with your daemon. It only lasts ten minutes, but hey! You'll get to see how the other half lives. A note: you won't inherit one another's abilities!

Congratulations to our costume contest winners!

In first place for individual costumes...

Rafa wins for his devilish costume and he'll be awarded 2 potions: the first of which will up his luck stat, granting him good fortune in an endeavor (it says "Deal with the Devil" on the bottle) and the second will up his persuasion stat, helping him to be more successful in an argument (it says "The Devil's Advocate" on the bottle).

In second place for individual costumes...

Nico plunders the second place spot and will be given a treasure chest full of chocolates that are rum flavored. Careful, they pack a bit of a punch and when consumed, they'll make whoever eats them feel especially happy. No sad drunks here!

In third place for individual costumes...

Zeke and his amazingly sunny costume are in third and he wins a sunflower plant that will never cease to bloom and seems to have a bit of a glow about it. Plus, perpetual supply of sunflower seeds?

In first place for couples costumes...

Magnus and Alec came first for their portrayal of... each other... and they win a pair of seemingly mundane t-shirts that say "Bennet" and "Darcy" on them. What's that about?

In second place for couples costumes...

Vex and Kenzi delighted with their take on the Addams' family patriarch and matriarch and won second place. As a prize, Kenzi will be given a shampoo and conditioner set that seems pretty innocuous until you check out the writing on the bottles: 'Have YOU ever wanted hair like Cousin Itt? Are you ever in luck!' Just a small amount will make her locks lustrous and smooth. Vex will be given a very lifelike and animated hand in a box.

In third place for couples costumes...

Rose and Kaz were drop dead gorgeous in their mafia-inspired garb. As prizes, they will receive the following: for Rose, a pair of magical die that make music when thrown, and for Kaz, a set of playing cards that are intricately illustrated with astonishing art that seems to move. Watch out for the face cards, they get very opinionated about your playing. They both also receive a chip that can be relinquished to Magnus for a small magical favor.

Yeah, exactly a detective. My costume doubles as my day job. It's great.

[ you little doofus. what the fuck. who gave you permission to get him to smile just a little more. what kind of fucking sorcery is this shit. okay look, juno came out here to have a bad time and he's honestly feeling so attacked by good feelings right now, it's pretty much criminal. when wyatt leans in, juno keeps still for the most part, turning his head away slightly to look out at the rest of the party. ]

Well, personally I was "detecting" the snack bar. But, you got any proof to back that claim up on all these shady people?

[ Era doesn't have anything truly against vampires really, but it's impossible to convince her instincts not to keep her at the ready to defend herself at a moment's notice around them. Coming from a world where most things tried to kill her at least once, it's hard to really let her guard down.

Though she tenses almost imperceptibly when she sees the boy's fangs, she forces herself to relax again a second later. Her smile is back in full force once she shakes off her initial reflex. ]

Unicorns seem to be rather universal. I've yet to meet someone who isn't at least aware of their concept.

Yeah, Eudio. ( he nods and then rubs the back of his neck, thinking back to the events that had come with the power swap. ) More for some than others. They assured it was temporary, though, so it wasn't all that bad. We were also there voluntarily, so that... changed things.

( even people prone to lashing out, overreacting or not respecting laws behaved as best they could in eudio. there's no guarantee of that here. )

[ Finished with her feet, Era lets them hang off the edge of the stool and leaves her long skirts to hide them from view once again. She certainly has been enjoying herself this evening, though as wonderful as it's been her highlight is still her first dance of the night, with Aymeric. ]

I am enjoying myself a great deal. I've never been to such a party before.

Yes. Balancing duty and love... isn't always easy, but it's worth it. ( he's had some struggles!! but nothing they haven't been able to overcome. the harder moments only make the good ones mean that much more, and in learning this balance alec has learned more about himself and magnus. )

Celebration is a good word for that. You probably don't have to do much else but be yourself, at this point. ( look he knows how cliché that sounds, but if they already like each other as it is, there's no need for link to change himself. )

Yeah? I hope I get to know him better. ( it's pretty much guaranteed he'll have opportunity, now that he'll live forever. he's glad, too, that someone else has conveyed the same thing to rafa before. it feels important to take into account your own personal readiness before jumping into something like that, but also see it as adding to what's already there, rather than breaking it.

When we went back home, not long ago, it was — a lot happened. I think it will take time for things to go back to what they were exactly. ( that kind of answers it, right? and it's why alec doesn't feel ready yet either. that, and something else, equally important. )

You know how my people don't like Magnus'. If we were to adopt a child, there's no guarantee we could do it legally. If it was a Nephilim orphan, they wouldn't want Magnus to raise it, and his people might find reason to undermine his authority. If it was a Downworlder, it might be used against me to undermine me. It might be difficult for us, and I don't want children to have to suffer that kind of political tension.

We're going to wait. Until the alliance between our people is stronger.

[ The foremost expert, you say? Era brightens considerably, clearly very interested in learning more. But, as she said before, at another time. ]

How could I not while in such good company?

[ She glances around, taking note of how so many people have gathered just for a good bit of fun and relaxation. It's a first for her, and she can't help but agree with Aymeric's sentiment. ]

It is. I imagine moments like these will become scarce in the future, so best to enjoy them while we can. [ Era doesn't mean to sound so ominous, but from what the holographic boy said to her during their exploration... She's fairly certain there's more trouble to be had sooner rather than later. ]

[ Wyatt looks at her. She was competitive, she says, which means she'd thought it was a competition. Maybe it was, and maybe in that case he was right to be jealous.

Even if that's the case, though, it doesn't change the fact that Jaden hadn't been interested. There was no point in making it a competition at all. He shrugs his shoulders, and then nods. ]

Yeah. I'm cool. There's nothin' to fight over. It wasn't like...

[ He rolls his eyes, and then looks at her frankly, gesturing at himself. ]

I wouldn't have been competition. Cause Rose, for real, no one's gonna want someone like me when they can have someone like you. [ He gestures at basically all of her. She should know this, he thinks. She'd seen how he lived in that other world. That world hadn't been real, but the Wyatt in it had been. He's just as much of a street rat in the real world as he had been there. ]

Anyways. We're cool. I hope you find someone who'll want it to be more than that. I saw your song. [ Her naked song. Which...he'd also figured was about Jaden, not knowing any better. ] There's gotta be someone better than that for you.

[Mandy snorts a little, even if he may have meant it in a different way, if she thinks about it her perception of her life was changed pretty quickly all things considered]

Yeah. In some cases, a single day can do it even for mortals who are a little slow on the uptake.

[like the day your husband fakes his own death and doesn't tell you he's doing it so you find out after the rest of the world.

She chuckles]

I guess not. I didn't precisely get the last word, but I made my point in a dramatic enough fashion it might have gotten through.

[maybe. She doesn't know if Brian even remembers that, considering everything he was doing at the time.

She smirks]

It is. I actually think I'd rather see a few people from home here rather than go back, mostly because for some of them I think it would be...better. [like it has been for Arthur. Curt could use this, a place where Brian Slade's shadow isn't hanging over them, where they could just be people instead of fictions again]

[He didn't drink the Siren's Song with this in mind, exactly, but he's glad it seems to be doing something for her. The charm, of course, is entirely intentional.

Once she's turned, he wraps his arms around her again, kimono sleeves draping down to cover part of her silhouette - which he can't help but think is all to the good. He'd think she was lovely no matter what, but she looks absolutely stunning tonight, and now that he has her in his arms he isn't feeling inclined to share.

Humming in pleasure, he leans into that kiss while it lasts. And steals another one with a smile when she says that.] I could give you a prize this time around, if you'd like.

[Which, yes, is referencing his 'prize' for their privates round of 'two truths and a lie'.]

[It's only in the last couple of hearts that anyone's bothered to treat him with any sort of formality, so the lack is honestly something of a comfort.]

I battled the man who'd killed the previous Archmage to keep a pair of powerful magical artifacts out of his hands. Afterward, it was decided that I should become the new Archmage.

[While Amanda doesn't look especially masculine thanks to the cut of her leather jacket and the tight pants, she's also not wearing a bit of makeup and she made sure that her cleavage wasn't exposed and her hair's fully tucked under the cap--she was a pilot, not a 'sexy' pilot'--so she supposes that at first glance some people might think she's dressing up as a man. Which she wouldn't mind precisely, since she is dressing up as a woman who elbowed her way into a boy's club and wasn't known for being traditionally attractive.

And she's kind of glad for that, because it means she feels pretty secure in heading to the bar and not getting any unwanted attention. It had escaped her mind that Arthur would be there--she hasn't been to the club before this, even if it would probably be more her style than Pandemonium had been--but she grins when she sees him]

Hey. Ah, as much as I'm sure it would be hilarious for everyone if Graced and I switched places, I think I'll stick to that backlight thing for now.

You look great, by the way. Your roommate did all that? [she saw the woman whizzing past at some point--how do you not notice someone in green face paint who actually manages to make it look something besides totally cheesy--and would been stunned she and Arthur live together if it weren't for her own living situation with Kavinsky]

[He glances over her costume then, but doesn't quite catch the reference - it's nice though, all the same.]

I've not been to very many myself - only a few in Eudio.

I'm a forty-year-old white guy, [Tony says.] No offense to forty-year-old white guys who don't drink alcohol, but I'm taking the mean of the culture. [He acknowledges her not-quite-hat-tip with a nod, taking a step back to turn on the sink. Splash water on his own hands, his tanned face. Part of him would rather be more shitfaced. Part of him would rather be out working on the quinjet. Both sides symbolize-- something, probably.]

Yeah, I think Freddy had different compulsions to deal with. [The feel of cold water is soothing to his nerves. He used to love parties, and he doesn't doubt he will again, but time away makes it jarring. Pretending otherwise makes him feel more stable inside of himself, funnily enough.] Darlene, right? Costume competition, they named names. [Drying his hands, he steps over to the Iron Man suit he'd vacated off to the side. It's open, showing its hollow interior where he'd fit inside. But he doesn't go in, not yet.]

[ It isn't often that she's seen Vanyel be a bit possessive. There's something attractive though about him desiring her so. Rose knows he could have anyone he wanted here tonight and yet- And yet, it's her he wants more than any of them. It's her, she's his, and she's so happy to be that sometimes she doesn't know what to do about it. ]

Oh, [ she says, a mischevious glint now in her eyes. ] I would like a personal prize, I think. Something [ is said as her hands start to wander now, teasing the low dip of his kimino ] just for me from you, maybe?

I'm sure we can find a place appropriate for that.

[ Since she knows she's suggesting something completely inappropriate for everyone else's eyes. ]

[ She had, to some degree. Won't deny the way jealousy twisted at her too when Wyatt had talked about his interest in Jaden in his first vlog.

She had been threatened a little by him, honestly, someone so effervescent and more sincere in his sunshine. So it's for that reason she stares at him at the claim in mild disbelief, maybe. A deer in the headlights look if he ever saw one. It's brief. A smile curls her lips again once its registered, something softer but genuine.

There's a lot of ugliness underneath all this beauty that he barely scratched the surface of. ]

I wanted you too, y'know. [ Want a little still, maybe. Not that she'll admit that right now. Seems a bit too risky. ] Don't sell yourself so short, dude. Glad we're cool though.

I've got Vanyel and Farraige. They're good to me. [ Both are better men than she deserves. ] I'm sure you'll find someone good for you too.

( he was kidding, magnus lightwood-bane!!!! )

You'd really want to try that? ( his tone is light, almost curious. ) There's no style you wouldn't try, is there?

( while magnus' hands come to his chest, alec's hands come to magnus' waist. )

( alec's not going to insist the point. that kind of thing requires a level of vulnerability that isn't easy. besides, not everyone needs that kind of contact. this place seems to grow out of people simply interacting. maybe that's why it's such a random assortment of people. enough people that know each other to get things started,
but enough people from different worlds to foster connections. )

I don't think there is. ( it does bug him a little, as he likes to make sense of things. however, he's more preoccupied by the fact that the entirety of the multiverse is in danger. that they're technically at war. ) We have other things to be concerned about.
