I see trouble on the way.

Characters: Everyone! Yes, you too!
Summary: Mandy's Masquerade hosts a fantastic Halloween party with a costume contest, some very special cocktails, and a few other surprises.
Date(s): Late in the month of October.
Warnings/Notes: Please mark any threads that need content warnings.

Mandy's is looking a bit festive this evening. Arrayed with spiderwebs, pumpkins, and other ghoulish decorations, the interior resembles a spooky haunted house. Spooky, not scary! Everyone's invited to stop by and celebrate All Hallow's Eve with spirited drinks, excellent company, and a lot of that Magnus flair.

You can loosen up on the dance floor to Monster Mash, Thriller, Dead Man's Party, or maybe something from this list. The spooky sky's the limit! Visit the bar for one of several special drinks you won't soon forget. You can also sample some tasty and holiday-appropriate baked goods, courtesy of the other Mr. Lightwood-Bane. Finally, stop by the table with the MAGIC 8 BALL to learn a little more about your fellow partygoers.

Siren Song
If you're a little tone-deaf, don't fret. This drink will turn you into a master at serenading. It won't actually give you the ability to influence anyone via magical means, but maybe if your song choice is apt, you'll woo someone either way!

Firework!
A drink that comes with a portable fireworks show hovering over its surface. Drinking it will give you the sensation of ingesting liquid pop-rocks.

Blacklight
Does what it says on the tin and makes the drinker glow under a black light. It's also kind of sour.

Frankenstein's Monster
This drink is quite shocking. Not dangerously so, but when you drink it, you'll have the impression of getting a tingling little jolt of electricity down your spine. It's aliiiiive.

To Be or Not To Be (A Daemon)
Drink this and you will find you've been magically swapped with your daemon. It only lasts ten minutes, but hey! You'll get to see how the other half lives. A note: you won't inherit one another's abilities!

Congratulations to our costume contest winners!

In first place for individual costumes...

Rafa wins for his devilish costume and he'll be awarded 2 potions: the first of which will up his luck stat, granting him good fortune in an endeavor (it says "Deal with the Devil" on the bottle) and the second will up his persuasion stat, helping him to be more successful in an argument (it says "The Devil's Advocate" on the bottle).

In second place for individual costumes...

Nico plunders the second place spot and will be given a treasure chest full of chocolates that are rum flavored. Careful, they pack a bit of a punch and when consumed, they'll make whoever eats them feel especially happy. No sad drunks here!

In third place for individual costumes...

Zeke and his amazingly sunny costume are in third and he wins a sunflower plant that will never cease to bloom and seems to have a bit of a glow about it. Plus, perpetual supply of sunflower seeds?

In first place for couples costumes...

Magnus and Alec came first for their portrayal of... each other... and they win a pair of seemingly mundane t-shirts that say "Bennet" and "Darcy" on them. What's that about?

In second place for couples costumes...

Vex and Kenzi delighted with their take on the Addams' family patriarch and matriarch and won second place. As a prize, Kenzi will be given a shampoo and conditioner set that seems pretty innocuous until you check out the writing on the bottles: 'Have YOU ever wanted hair like Cousin Itt? Are you ever in luck!' Just a small amount will make her locks lustrous and smooth. Vex will be given a very lifelike and animated hand in a box.

In third place for couples costumes...

Rose and Kaz were drop dead gorgeous in their mafia-inspired garb. As prizes, they will receive the following: for Rose, a pair of magical die that make music when thrown, and for Kaz, a set of playing cards that are intricately illustrated with astonishing art that seems to move. Watch out for the face cards, they get very opinionated about your playing. They both also receive a chip that can be relinquished to Magnus for a small magical favor.

[ Jace pointedly drains his drink, and slides his eyes over to Alec. He’s smiling behind his glass. ]

Me and Fray.

[ It’s been a really, painfully long time coming. Jace knows that Alec felt it all with him. It must have driven him crazy at times, but he’d only ever been supportive to Jace. At least, after they got over their initial issues about that. ]

I don’t know, Alec. When it came together it was all kind of sudden. [ Because of that not insignificant moment when Jace had confessed his love while dying in her arms. That’s an important factor. It’s not one he’s specified to Alec, simply because it’s wrapped up in that one moment he doesn’t want to talk about. Or deal with. Or think about, in any shape or form.

But it matters. ]

We were both ready, and wanting it, and now? I’m just going with it. I’m not gonna let anything get in our way, not this time. We match tonight, according to her.

[ It’s a totally unnecessary question. Can she come home with him. She’s been home with him, almost every minute since they got back to this world. Jace hasn’t complained about a single second of it. He can’t get enough of her. He’s been in love with her for so long, it felt like there would never be anything more than that. Unrequited feelings and the memory of what might have been, and never got the chance to be.

Now they have a chance, and it’s literally the only chance they’re ever going to have. For Jace, there is no world outside this one. No home to go back to, and no hope of a future with the woman he loves, unless somehow they can make it here.

And why shouldn’t they? Why do they always need to be denied everything? Jace isn’t in the mood to deny Clary anything at all. ]

Well, I can’t have you struggling by yourself. [ He says, playing along. ] But I have a lot of space, and I had no other plans tonight, so. I guess it’s just you and me. Doing more of this.

[ He tilts his head in, kissing at her neck and nudging his nose against her jaw. His hands tighten on her hips, pulling her a little closer against him. This is probably not the kind of thing Magnus would want to be going on at his party, but right now Jace doesn’t care. He’s getting lost in the moment. He starts to kiss his way along Clary’s neck, rising up towards her ear. ]

[ ‘Catch feelings’? Wyatt wonders if it was ever this messy for Hunter. God, it probably was. He isn’t sure how this kind of a love life could be anything but messy. Maybe he’ll learn. After all, look at his family. ]

Yeah, well. Other people got feelings too, you know? If you guys are happy then whatever, but I ain’t blind, Rosie. I saw that video. I hope you find whatever it is you want.

Seems like you already have a lot, though. I mean, more than most people do.

[ Wyatt isn’t sure what’s happening at first. Then he realises the darkness all around them isn’t just some trick of the light, nor is it part of what’s supposed to happen here. It’s Nico. Somehow, Nico is doing this. Wyatt catches his breath and stares at the demigod. Leaning in, he brushes their noses together before grazing their lips into a kiss. When it breaks, his eyes are bright and focused. ]

Not right now. I got someone holding my hand.

[ His own hands slide over Nico’s hips, squeezing them a little. ]

You’re just full of surprises, you know that?

[ Okay, that’s not exactly the response he was expecting. It gives him a moment of startled pause, wherein he misses a crucial step in their dance, and has to recover.

By the time he does, the surprise is gone. Honestly, Juno’s not the first person Wyatt’s ever met who has a non-conventional idea of gender. ]

Okay. Well then, ma’am. Why don’t you tell me what space is really like. Since you’re from there, and all. That’s the coolest thing I’ve heard all night.

[ Smooth recovery? He hopes so. He’s mainly annoyed with himself for not catching on to what Juno meant the first time around. ]

I get that. That’s how I feel about my pack.

[ This world is in theory safe, but they’re not safe in practice. In practice, they’ve been conscripted. Wyatt doesn’t want that for himself, much less his family. He presses his lips together, looking at Kurt. ]

Truth is? I’d want them to be with me instead of not. I know it’s selfish, I just can’t help wanting it anyway.

[ He moves a little closer to Kurt, dancing comfortably with him. Wyatt isn’t actually great at this. Dancing has never been a skill of his, but he likes it anyway. He moves his hand to settle against the back of Kurt’s neck. ]

You know you shouldn’t be flattered. You’re actually good at this. Lots of people would wanna dance with you, man. Can’t be a wallflower all your life.

Why?

[ That's his driving concern right now. Why do this, why ask, why want something so subjective and meaningless? Rafa isn't from his world. Loki has nothing to bargain with. It sets his teeth on edge. ]

[ You know

he probably should've expected something so straightforward and obvious. It does actually make sense to him too though, so! ]

I wasn't aware that was a rule! It does seem to be the case though with most couples, I imagine... [ It feels more natural, maybe? Hard to say. ] It might be fun though to change it up once in a while.

I should hope that they would tell me! If not, then... I suppose I wouldn't know? Not unless it were obvious.

[ HmmmMMMmmm. Things to ponder, certainly. ]

[ An opening. Loki smiles, lacing his voice, barely a level above saccharine, though he doubts Sidon would notice. ]

Perhaps there are more hurt people than you know. People find it difficult when they're hurt . . .

[ Then they are very different species indeed. Beyond the monsters controlled by Calamity Ganon, Sidon didn't attack unless provoked. Even then, he'd be very hard-pressed to fatally harm anyone if there was any other way. And even if there wasn't, he'd likely try to find one. ]

That's a relief to hear! It seems to be common to come from 'earth' but there's also a lot of variations of that world, too! [ It makes him wonder if there are other iterations of Hyrule in the multiverse. It's... a little overwhelming, however, so he doesn't ponder on it long. ]

I'm pleased to meet you as well, by the way! My name is Sidon and I am prince of Zora's Domain.

[ He watches the way she uses her tentacles so gracefully. Her movements are fluid, like the water she comes from. It's definitely something he's missed living now primarily on land. One of these days, he'll have to ask the young lady if she'd like to go for a swim or fishing.

For now though, he's neatly distracted by those miniature fireworks crackling over the edge of his glass. A large hand circles around it before he's also raising it to clink against hers with that wonderful toast. He's touched, truly! ] Hear, hear!

[ He agrees wholeheartedly before taking a swig of his own drink. He feels it, too, what she describes and finds himself laughing earnestly at the sensation. ] This is quite the experience, I have to say!

[And this little blue dweeb is genuinely one of those people. He hesitates then, honey-tinted irises dilating with recognition.]

Link? [Kurt pauses his movements, one hand stopped at the top of his head.] About this tall? Blond hair and blue eyes, if I remember correctly. [A sudden turn so he can motion toward his own pointed ear.] And ears like mine.

Fine! I— [ahem] I'm all right.

[He's floundering, that's obvious, but at least he can distract from that by scrambling to his feet. Kurt straightens as stiff as he can manage, one arm behind his back while the other grips the bow of the scarf he has twisted around his waist.]

... most people would say something about another person getting that close. You know, like, personal space and all?

Or, uhm, maybe you don't? [He isn't trying to sound discourteous, really.] Although, you genuinely didn't seem to mind me looking.

[Ah hah! Something that sincerely piques Loki's interest.]

So did I. Less weapons now, though.

My brother usually received weapons.

[ Loki never got very far with axes and swords. He can handle a dagger with more finesse than any bow man, but that never granted him much in Asgard. ]

I was less fond, though I appreciate a good dagger now and then.

[ Vampire or no, Magnus shudders in a very dramatic fashion. ] I can't imagine! [ It's apparently just too horrible for him to comprehend.

There's plenty of unappetizing food created by humans. Pumpkin pie, by Mr. High Warlock's standards, is not on the list. And, like Clary, Magnus has no intent of trying to sway Rafa's opinions on pumpkin-flavored anything. Actually, it means there's more for the rest of them, right? ]

You're right though, we should do this more often. If you can convince Jace to come, then I bet we can entice Alexander into seeing the merits of baking a big meal for us to share. I'm willing to give it my best shot!

[ Alec's fresh-baked dinner rolls and Thanksgiving-theme desserts? Probably to die for. You hear that, Rafa? ]

( alec is thankful too. it's clear clary is part of their lives now, and it's made things easier to just accept that. besides, after being in eudio with her... it feels different. like it allowed them to be in each other's universes without the stress of their home life. )

Me too. ( he likes these parties for similar reasons, but izzy's absence is marked. he misses her more than he can say.

it's nice to see jace and clary like this, though. they look... happy, even if there's something almost manic about it. they're making up for lost time. it makes sense. )

Looks like you two figured stuff out.

( alec takes another sip of his drink and hums. it's nice to chat about these things with jace, somehow. maybe because, in the past, talking about jace's love life had been unpleasant and uncomfortable and now they can just talk, like brothers do, like best friends do.

doesn't mean alec will accept oversharing. but he likes seeing jace happy, and when he talks about clary he gets a look in his eyes and alec gets a sense there'll be no one else for him like clary. he understands that feeling very well, and is glad to see it on someone he loves so much who's been through so much too.

also doesn't mean he's not gonna tease the hell out of him sorry not sorry. )

Wow, matching costumes. How the mighty have fallen. ( he doesn't think the jace of a few years ago would get dragged into matching silly mundane costumes with a girl, so it's telling.

less biting with humour: ) Just going with it is good. Never thought I'd say that, but... for some things, it is. ( for love, it absolutely is. )

Of course it's a lie! That's why it's funny, it's so unbelievable. Y'know?

[ Maybe it would've been more appreciated were it someone who knew her, probably. Like Rafa. Casually discussing murder with a stranger might not have been the best call but- She's had a few. Leave her alone. ]

I guess... I'd probably be upset if someone tried to insult Vanyel. Or Farraige. But I don't know, dude! It just seems like a shitty situation to be in. Why love someone that much if you know they don't love you back?

[ Of course Rose knows it isn't as easy as choosing to fall in or out of love. Eudio had taught her that much. She'd hardly felt like she had any say in it all, her feeling's for Vanyel, and maybe that's why she handled it so poorly then. Is... still hitting bumps in the road now. She's never done well with loss of control. ]

[ Some people learn to enjoy a bit of chaos in their lives, she supposes. Rose never has been the most put together person to begin with, so. It almost seems to suit her, in a way, being a little messy. She prefers the terms spontaneous or exciting though over 'messy.' ]

I know. [ Even if it sure doesn't seem that way. It's complicated. A lot of times she takes other people's feelings into too much consideration, decides for them what they should or shouldn't feel instead of talking to them about what they actually feel and going forward. She's gotten better, of course, but it still needs some work. ]

And... I guess I do. It's not that I don't appreciate what I have, I just. What I have is so great, it makes me want more. Y'know? Like when you eat something delicious, you never want to finish it. That kind of feeling.

[ Hmm. He's sensible enough to not pry but is now undeniably curious. Still, he knows avoidance when he sees it and that trying to push might make her pull further away.

Though he might try to find a way to work back around to their relationship and why his brooding is 'dumb' yet. ]

Ah, no, not the archer. I'm Thranduil, I believe, the king. His aesthetic is more Gridanian than Ishgardian but I think I pull it off well.

[ As if any of that made any semblance of sense to Clary. ]

[ Right!! Juno gets it. Totally. They're gonna be buds, fo sho. ]

[ It's kind of difficult not to sound a bit regal, with a mouthful like that. He doesn't consider himself nearly as lofty as his title, however, and hopefuly his easygoing smile conveys that. ]

[ Aymeric's player has found nothing under the name 'Loki' for canon, but it's also possible she's dumb and there's just too much lore to wade through to justify spending another fifteen minutes searching for one tag. Hopefully Loki's player understands if she needs to retcon. ]

Then what realm did he come from, if he is from a time before the ones known now?

[ Loki is currently being played from an ongoing canon so they fully sympathize with the need to retcon. ]

I cannot say. And I do not think he ever told us.
