Too little, too late, and the masses are more concerned with what happens in their tabloids than the technological advances that will save their world, and those in power are obsessed with temporary monetary gain to sustain their selfish lifestyles for the short period of time that they live.
Perhaps if you were immortal you would understand the frustrations of observing an entire population focused only what is now instead of what will be.
