Systems Alliance, come in. This is Lieutenant Commander Shepard of the SSV Normandy reporting.

The planet I've landed on is habitable. In fact, there are others here in the same position as me, though it appears all trace of the crew and ship are MIA. That -- probably means I'm the MIA one. I can only hope you're all still together, and in a beneficial situation. Planetary life here seems peaceful to some degree, but I'll stick to the book if it's necessary. I'm documenting plant life, animal genuses, and physical terrain, so you can expect some good reading whenever we meet up again.

Don't sweat. I'm fighting for Earth still, and I'll be back in the line of fire before you know it. Keep yourselves safe, be smart. Unite the alien races, you know the drill. Earth has its eyes on you, and humanity needs us.

[ hey, it's the lady from the fair. he wiggles his fingers a little in a wave. ]

Our daemons really only correspond with us and each other.

( she waves back at him, offering a small smile. )

Hey, Nico. Good to see you again.

Anyway, I still have to try. The Captain back home isn't going to be happy if he catches wind that I kicked my feet up and relaxed, while he's off saving the known galaxy.

Saving the known galaxy? From what?

Reapers. ( her voice drops when she says the name, expression falling more subdued, stony -- solider-like. ) A race of synthetic-organic starships created to harvest life in the galaxy when it advances too far, or becomes too intelligent. They work in 50,000 year cycles, and my Earth happens to be at the tail end of one of them.

So... you must be from the future, then. Because my Earth hasn't gotten that far along yet. I mean, I don't even know if the gods are that old, though my father is pretty old.

Styx, I can't even imagine aliens.

[ but he thinks about marco from back in eudio and how he'd spoken of a war with aliens too. is the future doomed, he wonders. ]

The year is 2186 back home, I think -- I lost a couple years in the middle there.

( she was technically dead for two years, which nico has probably smelled off her because i forgot to mention )

We only made first contact with the aliens 30 years ago, and a war broke out between us and the Turians, where peace was only found a few years back. ( but -- ) You mentioned gods?

[ a low whistle because damn, it's only 2015 for him. ]

That's pretty crazy sounding, but... I mean, I've seen some crazy stuff. And yeah, gods. What do you know about Greek myths?

Not too much. I wasn't raised on Earth, so some of the culture is lost on me.

Well, all you really need to know is that they're real, whether you've heard them or not. There are thirteen major gods: Zeus, Hera, Poseidon, Hades, Demeter, Apollo and his twin, Artemis, Hephaestus, Hermes, Aphrodite, Athena, and Dionysus. Each governs a different area of reality. The most important are the Big Three: Zeus, King of the Gods and ruler of the sky, Poseidon, god of the seas and oceans, and Hades, ruler of the Underworld and Death. They're the most powerful.

The reason I mentioned them is because usually when the world is ending or something, they're involved, as well as their children.

I know a lot of their constellations. ( she knows their astral constructs more than their stories, at least. ) That's the kind of world you come from, then? Do you know what the gods look like?

[deathkid]

[ yeah, sorry, it's a lot of information. ]

I know those constellations too. Are they the same when viewed from space?

But yeah, I do. I mean, I see my dad a lot. Or did when I was back home. He's Hades, the Underworld one. My boyfriend's dad is Apollo.

Totally different. It's -- ( NERD ALERT!!! ) it's really exciting, to see them from other angles. Space is three dimensional, and always changing.

Do they ... what do they look like?

[deathkid]

That sounds pretty cool. Maybe one day when my world gets further into exploring space, I'll get a chance to look at it like that.

[ a lopsided grin. ]

They tend to take on a human form when they're talking to us. Father looks tall and tends to wear his cloak of eternal damnation (which is creepy as it gets), but I've seen Poseidon wear Hawaiian shirts and shorts with flip flops. Humans and demigods can't look at the gods in their true form, though. We'd burn away to ash.

I might be able to emulate a similar, if less exciting, experience if you're interested.

That sounds -- ( both terrifying and hilarious, respectively. ) interesting. I wonder what they really look like.

Sure, I'm down for that. It'd be cool.

And yeah, it's wild. I don't know what my father even truly looks like because he's usually in his human form when I see him.

I am a little, but not enough to be burned to ashes.
