I see trouble on the way.

Characters: Everyone! Yes, you too!
Summary: Mandy's Masquerade hosts a fantastic Halloween party with a costume contest, some very special cocktails, and a few other surprises.
Date(s): Late in the month of October.

Mandy's is looking a bit festive this evening. Arrayed with spiderwebs, pumpkins, and other ghoulish decorations, the interior resembles a spooky haunted house. Spooky, not scary! Everyone's invited to stop by and celebrate All Hallow's Eve with spirited drinks, excellent company, and a lot of that Magnus flair.

You can loosen up on the dance floor to Monster Mash, Thriller, Dead Man's Party, or maybe something from this list. The spooky sky's the limit! Visit the bar for one of several special drinks you won't soon forget. You can also sample some tasty and holiday-appropriate baked goods, courtesy of the other Mr. Lightwood-Bane. Finally, stop by the table with the MAGIC 8 BALL to learn a little more about your fellow partygoers.

Siren Song
If you're a little tone-deaf, don't fret. This drink will turn you into a master at serenading. It won't actually give you the ability to influence anyone via magical means, but maybe if your song choice is apt, you'll woo someone either way!

Firework!
A drink that comes with a portable fireworks show hovering over its surface. Drinking it will give you the sensation of ingesting liquid pop-rocks.

Blacklight
Does what it says on the tin and makes the drinker glow under a black light. It's also kind of sour.

Frankenstein's Monster
This drink is quite shocking. Not dangerously so, but when you drink it, you'll have the impression of getting a tingling little jolt of electricity down your spine. It's aliiiiive.

To Be or Not To Be (A Daemon)
Drink this and you will find you've been magically swapped with your daemon. It only lasts ten minutes, but hey! You'll get to see how the other half lives. A note: you won't inherit one another's abilities!

Congratulations to our costume contest winners!

In first place for individual costumes...

Rafa wins for his devilish costume and he'll be awarded 2 potions: the first of which will up his luck stat, granting him good fortune in an endeavor (it says "Deal with the Devil" on the bottle) and the second will up his persuasion stat, helping him to be more successful in an argument (it says "The Devil's Advocate" on the bottle).

In second place for individual costumes...

Nico plunders the second place spot and will be given a treasure chest full of chocolates that are rum flavored. Careful, they pack a bit of a punch and when consumed, they'll make whoever eats them feel especially happy. No sad drunks here!

In third place for individual costumes...

Zeke and his amazingly sunny costume are in third and he wins a sunflower plant that will never cease to bloom and seems to have a bit of a glow about it. Plus, perpetual supply of sunflower seeds?

In first place for couples costumes...

Magnus and Alec came first for their portrayal of... each other... and they win a pair of seemingly mundane t-shirts that say "Bennet" and "Darcy" on them. What's that about?

In second place for couples costumes...

Vex and Kenzi delighted with their take on the Addams' family patriarch and matriarch and won second place. As a prize, Kenzi will be given a shampoo and conditioner set that seems pretty innocuous until you check out the writing on the bottles: 'Have YOU ever wanted hair like Cousin Itt? Are you ever in luck!' Just a small amount will make her locks lustrous and smooth. Vex will be given a very lifelike and animated hand in a box.

In third place for couples costumes...

Rose and Kaz were drop dead gorgeous in their mafia-inspired garb. As prizes, they will receive the following: for Rose, a pair of magical die that make music when thrown, and for Kaz, a set of playing cards that are intricately illustrated with astonishing art that seems to move. Watch out for the face cards, they get very opinionated about your playing. They both also receive a chip that can be relinquished to Magnus for a small magical favor.

You said you had lightsabers for us. [ Ned says with a grin when they end up close to the party and they haven't gotten in just yet. He's rather excited for the prospect of acting out fights and he's been practicing his Vader lines to make it believable! ]

[ His lip curls. Asgard, to most, seem antiquated. Archaic. But they were centuries more advanced than any other realm. ]

Antiquated does not mean behind. In many ways, the modern age could do with a few more antiquities to keep their hectic pace of life balanced.

No, it does not. My world evolved differently, but I don't believe it's behind the others in any sense.

[ her world has an abundance of magic that pretty much anyone can learn and use, so she thinks that's a pretty big win for Hydaelyn. but other worlds also seem more safe overall so they have that going for them... ] I have not experienced the modern age myself however, so I can neither agree nor disagree.

I do not think you are missing much.

[ But Loki treats Midgard and many other worlds with disdain. He is a spoiled rich prince, after all. Thor approaches everything with enthusiasm, but Loki is far more close-minded. Unless his curiosity is roused, he will not give it any quarter. ]

I am missing much knowledge other worlds could provide. For example, what is the science of a world without magic compared to the science of one with it? The differences in flora and fauna?

[ that's not necessarily a bad way to be, though also not ideal. finding a balance between too open and too closed off is difficult, and Era tends to lean far more toward the open end of things. ]

[ Loki shrugs loosely. ]

Magic and science are not particularly different. They are both governed by the rules of their reality. The transfer and transmutation of energy continues to take place, regardless.

No, I'm from a land called Hyrule. Hylians are... me. About our height, [ because Rafa is about his height. ] pointed ears. There are Zora, like my... dear friend Sidon. [ He nodded towards the large ten foot Shark-type man who was chatting merrily away with someone. ]

Gerudo, who wear the clothes we're wearing now but they are warrior women who are slightly shorter than Sidon, with ears like mine but their skin tends to always be darker. Gorons, who are made of stone and vary in size, and Rito who are bird-people. It's a world that's... very different from this one.

You are from Earth?

I... think you have a lot of stamina, Sidon. More than enough.

[ so. gd. flustered. ]

It's become very difficult for me imagine what life would be like without you.

[ Not just limited to Xistentia but... in general. Was that too bold of him to say? Sidon inspired him to be more bold and honest. ]

No, it's not funny.

[ straight up, his voice way more firm than it normally is. ]

I'm... a little worried, yes. [ He confessed quietly. ]

It's comforting to hear I'm not the only one. Sidon is just, [ he paused as he struggled for words. ] he's so good, and I don't want to disappoint him. I've never had time for courtship until now, duty always came first.

[ It's not. He's right.

But Rose also hates being wrong or made to feel that she is, so. She takes a sip of her drink and stares right back at him over the top of it.]

Alright, dude, whatever you say, [ is all she responds with finally, before walking away.]

[ It's a very... god-like thing to say.]

I love it, [ she admits.] Their lives are so short so they try to do... so much. It definitely has its downsides, sometimes, but I find it really exciting.

My people are kind of the same way as yours. Not gods, but. Long-lived. Not a lot changes and I couldn't stand it.

I'm guessing you guys are just like regular siblings, maybe? Don't always get along.

[ Not that she would know what a 'regular' dynamic was like.]

[ My people. Loki makes a mental note of it. ]

When you live among mortals, you are forever changed. Whether you expect to be or not.

[ Thor had changed. Violent, bright, undaunted Thor. Who went as a warrior and came back as a peace-loving hypocrite. It shattered Loki, in a way nothing else could. It wasn't his brother but a stranger. And at that time, at that moment, when his entire world was filled with strangers and enemies, it had hurt the most.

It hurts less now, but Loki no longer lets go. ]

[ Regular siblings. It's not an insult but Loki almost considers taking it as one. Instead, he clicks his tongue. ]

Hmm. A little moreness to us than with other siblings, I would presume to say. After all, most siblings spend a few decades. We had centuries.

[ Rose is too. After working for a few A-list names, she stopped being quite as starstruck but... She was still more a support role than anything else. Her only attempt to take the stage herself had ended abysmally. It didn't make her inclined to try again anytime soon.

But she gets attention in other ways. A lot of times, Rose enjoys playing the part of the jester. She doesn't mind people laughing with or at her, really; laughter is so much better than fear, after all. Making people smile helps her believe she's not the monster they tried to make her out to be. The 'monster' Mandy might someday see.]

I know what you mean, [ she hums in agreement.] I was caged for a long time myself, so. [ Literally, but also metaphorically.] Guess that's why I have trouble now with cages and commitment and... settling. It's actually been a little hard, living in Eudio and now here.

[ Sometimes, she just wants to leave it all behind. Even for the ways its enriched her life, she admits that it's not always easy.]

( the question somehow doesn't come as a surprise, although alec has never considered that. he hasn't worried that much about it so concretely — the priority being magnus recovering from his recent foray in some nasty memories and healing their trust slowly. he wants kids, but after this, so he's mostly been worrying about this. all he knows is he can't imagine being a parent with anyone else at his side. he gives the question a few seconds of thought, staring down into his drink with his brow furrowed.

it's a logical question. he wants to give rafa his proper, thoughtful answer. )

I think things would change, yeah, and maybe that's a little scary. But I guess... after everything we've been through to get where we are, I'm not scared it would drive us apart. It's like — you're making your family bigger and loving someone together, right? I think it would only add to it.

( he looks back to rafa. )

If you're not ready for things to change between you... That's not a bad thing. It might just mean you want more time for the two of you, and that kind of makes sense after... ( gestures vaguely. ) Everything.

( that makes alec's lips quirk into a bit of a fond, crooked smile, looking down at his drink before he looks out toward the people celebrating instead. )

You would have liked the place I was at before this. There was a party like this at least once a month. No war, either.

( if xistentia has taught aymeric to relax, alec wonders what eudio would have taught him. )

The weirdest thing going on was when we all kind of swapped powers.

Yes, a handful of us met in a place called Eudio before landing here. ( he gestures, point toward Vex, then Rafa. ) Met these guys there.

( he returns his attention to her, a tiny smile on his face. ) It was different, but there were a lot more parties. I got used to them.

( alec ducks his head with a soft smile for a second. it always feels... good, in a way, to meet others who experienced similar things. even if they're completely different people. he'd spent so long feeling isolated, alone, estrange from everyone. )

I know what that's like. ( same for the struggling for words. ) He knows that about you, right?

( that was smooth. alec looks down at the offered hand, then back up to magnus' face, and does that tight lipped smile of his. he's never been huge on dancing, but he's... hopelessly charmed, dammit. )

Okay. ( he takes magnus' hand, giving it a squeeze. ) Let's dance.

( he is, for once, not immediately thinking about how many people will end up staring at him, only the warmth of magnus' hand in his own and the expression on his face. they have a lot to celebrate, and he wants to with magnus in this particular way, right now. )

Perhaps not, but a world without magic would find ways to solve problems one with magic would not think of. Imagine all the things one might learn from such a different perspective!

[ while usually she speaks with more of a reserved tone, she can't quite keep the enthusiasm from accentuating her final sentence. she's kind of a huge nerd that way - such excitement over even just the thought of learning new things. ]

[ she glances to the siamese and it makes her wonder briefly where her own daemon ran off to. Era did tell it to keep Anima company, so it's not unlikely they're playing outside... ]

...Using the names of famous performers would make one more conspicuous, wouldn't it?

[ she hadn't realized those two were also part of that particular group too. ]

...It seems like a large majority of our group came from Eudio. Or perhaps more accurately, a majority of those first few arriving groups of us.

[ now the why is going to bother her. why so many from Eudio, but seemingly so few from others? ]
