Worst Job(s) Held: That might be a toss-up between escorting a ship full of animal droppings through enemy waters and nearly anything involving politics. At least the former was a one-way trip (to the bottom of the ocean, but nonetheless). I got less muck on my shoes, too.

Best Job(s) Held: Transportation adviser to the queen of France. Club owner in multiple universes. I did a brief turn as a private investigator, trench coat and all. Oh, speakeasy operator! No trench coat for that one.

Fantasy Job(s): Perhaps one day I'll open a night club in outer space...

Current Job(s): High warlock. Until recently, club owner. Baked good taste tester. I also work full-time as one half of the Lightwood-Bane Coalition for Uninterrupted Date Nights.

It sounds like he's a good person to have on your side! As a friend or ally. Or both?

Oh, it's pretty versatile! I can use it to travel or to heal people. I can use it for offense or defense. To transport objects from one place to another. Quite a few things, really.

Both. I imagine having a younger sibling would feel the same as how I feel for him and his sister.

All of that is done with one branch of magic?

I can relate to that feeling. How long have you known one another?

[ Magnus has a few of those. ]

It's a magic that's shared by all warlocks in my world. We're born with it. Some choose to develop it in different ways, but we all possess the same basic abilities, if not roughly the same amount of energy to use doing magic.

[astralera]

Two and a half years, give or take a handful of moons. We hadn't properly been acquainted the first time I saw them, but I distinctly remembered them. They are so identical in appearance, but different in most every other way.

[ It probably helps that due to her unfortunate lack of memory they were two of the first people she can ever remember seeing. Otherwise they were quite unremarkable beyond being twins, as they were asleep for much of their journey on the carriage, and antisocial the rest of the time.

Once again it brings to mind just how much Aliphinaud and Alisaie have grown in the time she's known them, and she can feel her heart swell with pride. ]


Then it is much the same as magic in my world. Do you have a particular specialty?

You said they're very different in every way but appearance. I'm guessing that means his sister isn't a politician? [ Or... "in politics."

As it were. ]

I have a knack for healing! And portal making. Other than that, nearly all warlocks are good at glamouring.

[astralera]

She never ceases to find a way to tease poor Alphinaud about his proclivity toward using diplomacy for just about everything. I imagine Alisaie would find the thought of ever delving into politics utterly laughable. She is more a woman of action, much like myself.

[ she misses those brats way too much :( ]

Healing is my particular strength as well. I have no knowledge of portal making however. What do you use them for? And your glamouring, is it glamouring of items or oneself?

I see! That kind of combination makes for quite a pair, from what I know. Sometimes people work very well together in spite of those vastly different approaches.

[ The silent question being, maybe, 'do you?' Or 'do they?' ]

Portals? They're used for transportation. Instantaneously, from one place to another! And glamours can change the appearance of anything. Items or people.

[astralera]

Yes, differing view points are always quite useful when working as a team. They are still siblings, however. And young. [ read: so they argue a lot because they are young and still kind of stupid. ]

We have something similar in my world called the Aethernet. People can attune themselves to aetherytes and then Teleport to them. Small aetherytes can only be traveled to via other small aetherytes in the same area, though there are large aetherytes that you can Teleport to from anywhere for a nominal fee.

In our world we can't glamour people, but we can change the appearance of one item into another using glamour prisms. I always keep many prisms on hand for when I acquire new gear that is rather ugly.

Youth explains a lot. Not that there aren't mature young people! Nor siblings who get along very well. [ And not that he means to say it sounds like these siblings are being described as bickering and immature either. ]

That's fascinating. And these are powered how, if I can ask? I'm considering a similar experiment here! I guess that might be relevant to mention, mightn't it?

Fashion-forward glamours! I heartily approve. I've been known to use an aesthetic glamour or two. [ Actually, he uses one all the time in public, but most people aren't even aware of it. ]

They are powered by aether. Aether is a form life energy, and not every race is capable of harnessing it. It can be found in varying levels in oneself, but is mostly drawn from the earth around you.

I did not bring a miniature aetheryte with me unfortunately, so I don't have one available for testing.

I have stopped using my prism supply since arriving due to limited stock. I didn't realize how often I used them until I no longer did.

It sounds like it operates similar to some of the magic in our world. Some are born with it, some use energy that's found in the earth. Some a mixture of both. And some get their magic enhanced by other sources. [ Demons. He means demons. ]

I wonder if it would be possible to synthesize this world's version of either.

Aetherytes or prisms. Theoretically, it should be possible for me to create something similar to both things you've described, but it might be even easier if I can get a good handle on what's available to us!

[astralera]

As far as the knowledge I have says, there is only one race on my planet unable to harness aether. Aside from the Garleans it is exceptionally rare to find someone incapable of aether manipulation where I am from. Though many don't train in a discipline of magic, preferring physical means of craft or combat instead.

Are those with magic more or less common in your world than those without?

I may be able to assist in gathering information on available resources for you. It would depend on what you consider a resource in this context.

Interesting. Your world isn't like many I've heard of. Aether and its use, are they common knowledge even among people who don't train?

People who can use magic in my world are far, far outnumbered by those who can't. And most people don't know of its existence. There are only a few humans who can See what most cannot.

I think the first thing to do would be to gather a number of materials and see how well they absorb and retain magic. I very much doubt that any old container is going to be a good choice for holding the kind of magic we're talking about here.

[astralera]

There isn't a sentient being alive that is not aware of magic. It is unfortunate that so few in your world get to experience it.

I have some unaspected crystals in my inventory that may assist in checking for elementally aspected magics.

From what I can tell? Many worlds seem to keep it a secret. I could explain our world's reasoning, but it's a very long, tedious history lesson. I admit, I'm much more interested in the possibility of pooling our resources to do something useful here, in this world.

[astralera]

I imagine the short answer is that it is a dangerous thing.

For now I am still adjusting to this strange world. Once I am properly settled I will be exploring in more depth. When I do I'll make sure to record anything useful and pass it along.

Would I be right in guessing Carbuncle is the name of your daemon? Or the type of creature?

My 'daemon' calls itself Emeraldd, though it is one of my summons classified as a Carbuncle. We are currently having a feud over the inaccuracy of its name.

[ the biggest of feuds. you would think she was an amateur arcanist with how much her summon disobeys her now. ]

A feud? Well, that sounds serious! Hard to get much done if you're having a disagreement like that, I'd imagine.

[ Not that he can't relate to having a bit of difficulty with his own daemon. ]

It will obey if absolutely necessary. Otherwise it is much like a disobedient feline. I'm hoping it will get bored and accept that I will not call it 'Emerald' when it is Topaz or Ruby.

Ah, I see. It changes forms?

Yours truly is very familiar with the disobedient feline problem. Not that my daemon is a feline! My husband's is though...

Colour and abilities, and only if I wish.

The cats that I have experience with have all been rather obedient. Though I believe my friend inherited an estate with a rather ill tempered feline and may be able to assist me.

That's very interesting. Not something I've heard of! The forms these daemons take are curious indeed.

A friend, here? Expertise at handling individualistic felines is certainly an acquired skill.
